U2’s the Edge passed the torch to legendary musician Peter Gabriel, who was named Amnesty Ambassador Of Conscience at the Global Music and Human Rights Tour launch event.
Both musos were in London for the Amnesty International Small Places Tour launch and Ambassador award ceremony.
The tour will kick off in LA with a concert from Mexican rock band Jaguares and travel around 46 countries featuring bands including REM, The Who, Santana, Kings of Leon, and even New Kids on the Block.
‘It was through the tours for Amnesty International that I first met many people around the world engaged in human rights work. It was these people and their extraordinary stories of suffering and courage that I found impossible to walk away from, so the Ambassador of Conscience Award means a great deal to me,’ the newly appointed ambassador said.
Peter Gabriel joins a long list of Amnesty Ambassadors including freedom fighter Nelson Mandela.
